The Houston Texans narrowed down their roster to an initial 53 players ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
Houston is carrying five running backs and five cornerbacks, where competition was stiff in training camp and the preseason.
The most notable cuts Tuesday were veteran wide receiver Noah Brown, who missed significant time with lingering injuries both last season and in camp this year, and cornerback C.J. Henderson, who the Texans brought in this offseason.
Veteran backup quarterback Case Keenum landed on injured reserve and is expected to miss the entire season with a foot injury that's been ailing him for much of camp. Third-year linebacker Christian Harris, who's missed the bulk of camp with a calf injury, is also on injured reserve to start the season.
