Texans RB Dameon Pierce ruled out, Joe Mixon doubtful against Vikings
The Texans are likely to be without both of their top running backs when they visit the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Backup running back Dameon Pierce, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, will miss his second straight game after being ruled out against the Vikings. Pierce did not practice this week.
Starting running back Joe Mixon, who was injured in last Sunday night's win against the Chicago Bears, is doubtful with an ankle injury. Mixon was the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after the opener against the Colts. He rushed for 159 yards on 30 carries.
Akers played in six games for Minnesota last season after being traded from the Los Angeles Rams. He was inactive in the Texans' season opener against the Indianapolis Colts, then carried it seven times for 32 yards against the Bears. Akers also had one catch for three yards and fumbled once.
Another potential challenge for Houston's run game is at center. Starter Juice Scruggs, who missed the Bears game with a groin injury, was limited in practice this week and is listed as questionable for Sunday.
Jarrett Patterson, who filled in for Scruggs against the Bears, suffered a calf injury in the game and was limited in practice this week. Patterson is also listed as questionable against Minnesota.
