(SportsRadio 610) - Day Two of Texans training camp is over and now fans can get ready to watch their team put on pads Monday.
But before we get there, let's run down some observations from Saturday's practice:
1. Brandon Scott and I will provide you with a podcast of practice observations after every practice and throughout the season. Give Lock and Scott a listen, we've got ya covered.
2. Jonathan Greenard and Justin Britt were suited up and practicing after being on the side on day one. During the beginning of team drills, Greenard was on the side, but was very engaged and appeared anxious. At one point he even put his helmet on and was pacing on the sideline. He was on the field at the end.
3. Phillip Dorsett also remained on the side.
4. The battle red helmets should be the permanent helmet. Make it permanent.
5. Still D.R.E. started out the music rotation during stretches.
6. Rasheem Green, the fifth-year defensive end out of USC, looks like a created player in Madden.
7. Davis Mills was rocking the red visor with the battle red helmet and it took an already elite product to another level.
8. Andre Johnson was locked in and engaged during receiver drills. At one point he pulled second-year wide receiver Nico Collins aside and was giving him pointers. It's good to have Dre back and heavily involved.
9. The special teams portion of practice has been extremely intense a couple of days in. Special teams coach Frank Ross doesn't stop instructing and coaching. Big Frank Ross guy here.
10. Kenyon Green continues to run with the 2's, Max Scharping is getting the first-team reps.
11. Quote Of The Day: "There are some bodies out there! Pick em up!" - Jerry Hughes yelling to the defense after Mills threw a pass to Nico Collins across the middle that would've resulted in a massive hit in a full contact in-game situation.
12. There was too much Jeezy on the playlist Saturday for my liking.
13. For whatever reason, Mills was holding the ball for a long time today. It appears the receivers not getting open was one of the biggest reasons.
14. Brandin Cooks sat on the side during team drills.
ICYMI- Cooks joined the show yesterday.
15. Mills delivered a really nice running toss to Chris Conley for about 20 yards. However, on the very next play he missed an open Collins on a long post. This was the second day he overshot an open receiver on a deep post. Friday Cooks, Saturday Collins.
16. Tight end Seth Green stuck out more Saturday. Lovie Smith said he expects Antony Auclair to be out for a little while, which could open up an opportunity for Green. Skill position depth on this team is very light across the board and expect Caserio to be active.
17. Justin Britt feels the same way most do about the Battle Red lid.
18. I asked Britt about the difference in Pep Hamilton's offense vs Tim Kelly's early on and he said, "That's a Lovie question. Kinda a double-edged sword."
19. A day off Sunday and then Monday the pads come on!
