Deciding touchdown pass to Will Fuller was a gift to Texans

(SportsRadio 610) -- This game was too close for comfort.

On paper, the Texans and Jaguars were evenly matched Sunday.

Both were 1-6. Both brought in two of the worst defenses in professional football.

That much was evident just five plays into the game, when the teams had dueling scores attributed to poor defense.

The Texans separated from Jacksonville in the third quarter, when Deshaun Watson found Will Fuller on a fade route for a 77-yard catch-and-run touchdown. It was the longest play of Fuller's NFL career.

The Texans took a 27-16 lead in the third quarter, and it was just enough for a win.

One thing, though.

The play should not have counted.

The play clock had long expired by the time Watson snapped the ball, and should have been a delay of game.

"Yeah I did, but we didn't get no flag," Watson laughed when asked if he knew the play clock expired.

The Jaguars did not find it funny. They dropped to 1-7, despite a solid rookie debut from quarterback Jake Luton.

Luton was 26-of-38 with a touchdown on 304 passing yards. He also ran for a touchdown and threw an interception in the Texans' 27-25 win.

Watson turned in another high-level performance. It was his sixth straight game with a passer rating of at least 100.0, which is a career-best and franchise record.

But in this case, it was better to be lucky than good.
