HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- For the third straight game, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for at least 300 yards in their 42-36 overtime loss against the Titans on Sunday.
Whereas the offense had struggled in the first few games of the season with finding its identity and getting into a rhythm, it appears to be coming together.
It was Romeo Crennel's confidence in the offense which led to him going for a two-point conversion late in Sunday's game.
Watson finished the game 28-of-37 for 335 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions and a 138.9 quarterback rating.
Will Fuller had 123 receiving yards on six catches and a touchdown.
Tight end Darren Fells had a career-high 85 receiving yards on six catches and a touchdown.
Brandin Cooks had nine catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Randall Cobb finished with just three catches, but one of them was a touchdown to give the Texans a lead in the third quarter.
This is much closer to the offense they envisioned when all of these pieces were put together around Watson in the offseason.
The Texans still are not running the ball well, and Crennel acknowledged the passing game was their bread and butter Sunday.
But they're taking advantage of the shorter and intermediate routes when defenses take away the deep shots.
They are connecting on deep shots and capitalizing on defensive mistakes when the opportunities are there.
Offensive coordinator Tim Kelly spoke last week about getting a better feel for a game as first-year play caller.
"Understanding 'hey, this area is something that we can continue to go to. This hasn't looked so good. Let's stop trying to force this. Don't make this. It's not going to happen. Don't try to continue to force it to happen,'" Kelly said last Thursday. "Because the one thing I learned early on is that you typically get however many, 60 plays in a game. Early on we had like 48 snaps, we had like 53 snaps. So, we weren't getting a ton of opportunities.
"You don't have a lot of time to try to figure out. You have to figure it out quickly and you have to figure out what the flavor of the game is going to be, and you've got to go and you've got to attack once you do."
Left tackle put it more simply when asked about the Texans' offensive identity.
"Put the ball in Four's hands. Easy as that. Let him make plays, man. We're going off of him."
