Texans fire offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik
The Texans have parted ways with offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and two other coaches after the offense took a step back in their second season.
For Houston, it means a new play caller for C.J. Stroud going into his third season. Slowik had been the play caller for the first two seasons with Stroud at quarterback and DeMeco Ryans at head coach.
It worked well in the Texans' first season, when Houston finished with the 12th-ranked offense and seventh best passing offense. But in 2024, the Texans' offense ranked 22nd with the 21st-ranked passing offense.
"Overall, offensively, we have to improve," Ryans said during his Monday press conference. "It wasn't where we wanted to be. There were challenges throughout the year, that is every year. You have challenges, you have ups and downs where you try to figure out the course, who we have and how to make it work. We have to improve."
The Texans also fired offensive line coach Chris Strausser and assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich.
