Texans DB Jimmie Ward charged with domestic violence, accused of assaulting fiancée
Texans veteran defensive back Jimmie Ward faces a felony assault and family violence charge involving his fiancée at his home in Magnolia, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
Ward was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County jail early Thursday morning after deputies responded to a reported assault in progress.
At the home they said a woman alleged she'd been assaulted, strangled and threatened by Ward, her fiancé.
Ward is entering his 12th season and his third with the Texans. He spent most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, where current Texans head coach was once an assistant.
It was already expected that Ward's role would be diminished with Houston's acquisition of C.J. Gardner-Johnson and the emergence of second-year safety Calen Bullock. Now, the Texans have to decide whether to keep Ward under the circumstances.
Ward, 33, is under contract for the 2025 season after the team extended him last year. He is owed $4.5 million with a $5.6 million cap hit.
Both the Texans and NFL have issued statements acknowledging they are aware of the incident, but declined further comment.
