Texans GM Nick Caserio rips NFL for 'lack of consistency' with Azeez Al-Shaair suspension
Texans general manager Nick Caserio had a lot to say when he met with media members following the NFL's three-game suspension of linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.
The suspension was the result of an illegal hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and an ensuing brawl on the field Sunday. But in the language announcing the suspension, the NFL's vice president of football operations Jon Runyan made character assessments of Al-Shaair that Caserio clearly objected to, as well as the overall narrative surrounding the Texans linebacker.
"Quite frankly, it's unfair," Caserio said of the picture being painted of Al-Shaair. "All teams ask for is consistency from the league. I'd say in this situation, quite frankly, there's no consistency at all relative to the level of discipline that's been handed down."
Caserio pointed to at least three other situations where player discipline was levied differently, Brian Branch and Derwin James this season and Kareem Jackson in previous years.
