Texans top WR Nico Collins considered 'week-to-week' with hamstring injury
The Texans pulled out a victory in the final seconds of Sunday's matchup against the Buffalo Bills, but the game did not come without a cost.
Top wide receiver Nico Collins, who leads the NFL in receiving through five weeks, injured his hamstring on a 67-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter. It was one of only two catches for Collins before leaving the game, but it turned out to be exactly what they needed before winning 23-20.
Rarely if ever are hamstring injuries short recoveries, so do not expect Collins to play Sunday when the Texans travel to face the New England Patriots. There have been no official injury reports yet. But at Monday's news conference, head coach DeMeco Ryans acknowledged hamstring injuries can take a couple of weeks to recover from and that the Texans' training staff would continue monitoring and helping Collins rehab.
"He's in good spirits," Ryans said. "Of course, with the hamstring, it takes a couple weeks for hamstrings, so we'll evaluate that on a week to week basis to see when we can get him back."
Collins' 567 receiving yards leads the NFL, as well as his 27 catches for first downs. Only four receivers have been targeted more. Without Collins, the Texans will rely more on Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, Robert Woods and Xavier Hutchinson as their top receivers.
