The Philadelphia Eagles shockingly traded defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans for offensive lineman Kenyon Green (and a late-round 2026 swap where the Eagles get a fifth-rounder and the Texans get a sixth-rounder) on Tuesday.
CJGJ reacted to the trade on X saying, "I love you Philly, we forever champions."
Here are six thoughts:
1) It's shocking but I think it’s a fine trade. The Eagles have now moved on from CJ twice. That’s noteworthy. I trust their read on it.
2) I definitely understand fans being upset. CJ was awesome to root for and did add a toughness. He was everything the team could have hoped for in 2024.
3) No real impact to the cap for 2025
4) If Jeff Stoutland likes Kenyon Green I think that is very important. I’d trust that over PFF grades and I love PFF
5) If Vic Fangio felt CJ was critical he’d probably still be here
6) I definitely think the Eagles will and should add completion for Sydney Brown. Can’t hand him the job.
