(SportsRadio 610) -- While the Texans are parting ways with backup running back Duke Johnson, they are looking to retain starter David Johnson.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans want to retain David Johnson, if they can lower his salary cap figure of $8.5 million.
The Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for Johnson and a second-round pick swap.
David Johnson rushed for 691 yards on 147 carries and caught 33 passes for 314 receiving yards.
The Texans have salary cap decisions to make this offseason. They released legendary defensive lineman J.J. Watt to get about $4 million under the cap.
Releasing Duke Johnson saves the Texans saves the Texans about $5 million in cap space.
