(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans are hiring Matt Burke as their defensive coordinator, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Burke was the Arizona Cardinals defensive line coach last season, and spent 2021 as the game management coordinator for the New York Jets in Robert Saleh's first season as head coach there. Saleh was Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans' predecessor as defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers, so there is a clear connection.

Burke was the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator from 2017-18 after coaching linebackers for Miami, the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions. He was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2019-20 as an assistant.

KPRC2's Aaron Wilson reported the Texans are hiring Nick Kray as their new chief of staff. He previously held the same role for the 49ers, where he was an administrative assistant to Kyle Shanahan.

It also appears the Texans are retaining special teams coordinator Frank Ross, who would enter his third season with as many head coaches in Houston, and head strength and conditioning coach Mike Eubanks, who has been with the team since 2018.

The major piece left is offensive coordinator. The Texans have interviewed for Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, 49ers passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik, Cincinnati Bengals wide receivers coach Troy Walters and Minnesota Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson.
