(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans are releasing veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill at his request as they move on with rookie Christian Harris, according to multiple media reports.
Grugier-Hill first signed with the Texans ahead of the 2021 season on a one-year, $2.5 million contract. He re-signed this past offseason for one year, $4 million.
Last season, Grugier-Hill started 14 games. He was the Texans' leading tackler with 108 and also recorded three sacks.
In six game started this season, Grugier-Hill has 40 tackles, but he's watched his role diminish as the Texans have struggled to get production from their linebackers.
Harris, who missed the first five games of the season with a hamstring injury, is expected to get most of Grugier-Hill's reps, which would have been the case even if he stayed on the team.
