Texans defensive tackle Maliek Collins is signing a two-year, $23 million extension with the team, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

Collins, 28, has been the Texans' top interior defensive lineman the past two seasons. He had seven quarterback hits and nine tackles for loss in 2021, then 10 quarterback hits and nine tackles for loss last season.

The Texans also signed free agents to help improve their defensive line, which has struggled against the run in recent years. They signed former 49ers defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway and former Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins.

With Collins and the additions of Rankins and Ridgeway, this defense led by head coach DeMeco Ryans and coordinator Matt Burke should be stronger up front.
