(SportsRadio 610) -- Whether the Texans should consider selecting a quarterback with their top pick is one of the looming questions a week ahead of the NFL Draft.

The Texans' first pick is at No. 67, with no picks in the first or second rounds.

Coming off a 4-12 season, with drastic roster turnover and a unique situation at quarterback (no one really knows what will happen with Deshaun Watson), there are a lot of needs for this team.

Most of the current players are on one-year deals, or have two years or less remaining on their contracts. The Texans need an infusion of talent.

Former Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, who spent seven seasons with the team in their best years, joined Payne and Pendergast on Friday morning to discuss the draft, his time in Houston, retirement and more.

As for whether the Texans should draft a quarterback in the third round, Schaub says they have too many other needs to prioritize.

"I can't say that they should," Schaub said. "Obviously there's a lot up in the air with Deshaun's situation. I'm not going to get into that. That's a legal process, his situation. But when you bring in a guy like Tyrod Taylor, who's played a lot in this league, whatever happens that's a guy who can go on the field and produce and win football games. So I don't think that necessarily quarterback is the No. 1 pressing issue when you look at the Texans.

"I think you have far more holes and far more issues on the roster and the depth chart than quarterback. And when you get to those picks, mid- to late-rounds, that's how you build your roster. That's how you accumulate talent that can play special teams, that can do multiple things for your football team. They don't cost a ton of money, you can develop them and you can have solid starters in those rounds. You've got to be able to hit on the picks and find guys that work and fit what you're trying to do with your system, whether it's on offense on defense.

"So I would say no to the quarterback position at that spot because there's just far more issues throughout the roster."
