Shameful Triple Threat: James Harden vs. Deshaun Watson vs. Gerrit Cole

Gerrit Cole, James Harden or Deshaun Watson. Which of these three former Houston athletes would you least like to see win a championship?

Let’s layout the case for each…

Three Reasons It Would Suck To See Cole Win A Ship:

1. He’s on the Yankees. That’s bad enough in itself, but recently there has been a shameful amount of whining from New York that would make Cole being a part of ending their drought even worse.

2. The Rockets and Texans are far from being championship contenders, but the Astros actually are a contender so a Yankees championship would come at the sake of the Stros, which would sting more.

3. Since he walked into the clubhouse after Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, his last game as an Astro, Cole has given off a turdish, whiny vibe. Even people in New York notice how awkwardly unlikable he is.

Three Reasons It Would Suck To See Harden Win A Ship:

1. Many people in the city sold their souls defending Harden against the rest of the world only to see him force his way out without winning a title. It’s one thing to sell your souls for a ship, but to sellout, not get a title and then see him win one elsewhere would be a tough pill to swallow.

2. The Morey double whammy. A Harden title in Philly would mean Daryl Morey would win his first championship elsewhere as well. Ouch.

3. It’s hard for me to come up with a third reason because I would actually be somewhat happy for Harden. Plus, a case can be made that maybe Harden did the Rockets a favor and the split was necessary. The Rockets rebuild has early momentum and the Harden championship window here may have been closed.

Three Reasons It Would Suck To See Watson Win A Ship:

1. It would mean a worse draft pick for Nick Caserio and the Texans.

2. It would add to the pain of the Texans finally finding a franchise QB and then Bill O’Brien and Jack Easterby’s two-years of front office incompetence forcing him to want out.

3. Deshaun still hasn’t even acknowledged Texans fans or Houston since his departure, which is unheard of. He’s literally the only player traded in the offseason who hasn’t done this, which kind of says a lot about him. Watson went from pushing the servant leader brand pre-contract to posting pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf Of Walstreet and saying you should eliminate people with the 9-5 mindset from your inner circle post-contract. How would a servant leader post something like that? 9-5ers have a special place in my heart, I thought they did for the self-proclaimed servant-leader and if you’ve seen Wolf Of Walstreet I don’t see how that character fits the brand Watson pushed. The dude wrote a freakin' self help book about it! I thought it was tacky when he did it and think he’s still going through a branding identity crisis. That’s hard to pull for.
