The Texans are signing former Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz to a one-year, $9 million deal, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Monday.
The deal comes just one day after Houston traded its top receiver Brandin Cooks to Dallas in exchange for two draft picks.
Schultz's reported deal came less than an hour after his agent denied Albert Breer's report that the tight end turned down a three-year, $36 million contract offer from the Cowboys "at one point."
The Cowboys franchise tagged Schultz after a career year in 2021, where he had 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games. He had 57 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games last season.
Absent bringing in another veteran through trade or free agency, or a rookie in the draft, the Cowboys will now turn to a trio of Jake Ferguson, Peyton Hendershot and Sean McKeon to fill Schultz's void.
