(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans added depth to their offensive line and running back room Wednesday with a couple of practice squad signings.
Just one day after putting rookie center Jarrett Patterson on the injured-reserve, the Texans signed center Lecitus Smith and running back J.J. Taylor to the practice squad.
Patterson has what head coach DeMeco Ryans described as a lower leg injury and is likely out for the season. Michael Deiter is expected to step in his place as the starting center, while Smith provides another backup option.
Smith started two games and played in 10 for the Arizona Cardinals as a rookie last season. He was a sixth-round pick who was released as part of final roster cuts this season.
Taylor's signing to the practice squad comes on the same day starting running back Dameon Pierce missed practice with an injury, which Ryans said they would continue to monitor throughout the week.
