(SportsRadio 610) - Bobby Slowik is thankful to be in position to be considered for NFL head coaching opportunities, but he's trying to remain one-track minded for now.
The Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders have requested permission to interview the Texans' first-year offensive coordinator for the head coaching vacancies.
When asked Wednesday about the interview opportunities, Slowik acknowledged he was grateful for the recognition, but remains focused on how the Texans can beat the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card opener Saturday at NRG Stadium.
"It's really easy to handle right now. We're locked in on Cleveland," Slowik said. "We're full speed ahead, kind of keeping our head down in the darkness. All of that stuff, I'm very grateful. I'm thankful to the Lord for giving me this opportunity. I'm thankful to Nick (Caserio) and DeMeco (Ryans) and the Texans organization for putting me in this position.
"But right now, I'm a Houston Texan. I'm a part of this organization and I'm going to do everything I can to help us win against Cleveland. Everyone's energy right now in this organization is devoted to how do we play one more game. How do we keep just playing one more game. We really have what I believe is a special group of individuals."
Still, the Panthers and Commanders are just two of a handful of NFL teams looking for a new head coach. Pete Carroll won't be back with the Seattle Seahawks. The Atlanta Falcons fired Arthur Smith almost immediately after Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Like the Panthers, the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers fired their coaches during the season.
Slowik has emerged as a viable head coaching candidate for how the Texans' offense has performed as one of the top units this season with rookie C.J. Stroud at quarterback.
