HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans will be without cornerback Gareon Conley to begin the 2020 season.
Conley was placed on the injured reserve list Monday, along with rookie wide receiver Isaiah Coulter.
Conley underwent ankle surgery during the offseason and started training camp on the physically unable to perform list. He is projected to be a starting cornerback alongside Bradley Roby, but second-year corner Lonnie Johnson Jr. will likely take the bulk of his snaps while on the injured list.
The Texans also have Vernon Hargreaves III, Cornell Armstrong, Phillip Gaines, Keion Crossen and rookie John Reid for depth at corner.
The new injured reserve rules this season allow Conley to return after three games, as opposed to eight games.
Houston used a third-round pick acquired in last year’s Jadeveon Clowney trade to bring in Conley from the Oakland Raiders mid-season.
Conley, a first-round pick in 2017, had 11 passes defended and 27 tackles in eight games for the Texans.
