HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- It's largely accepted that Deshaun Watson is already the best quarterback in Texans history.
In just three seasons, he's already second behind Matt Schaub in touchdown passes and should pass him in the next couple of seasons.
But that's not really good enough.
Watson's football legacy will be defined by winning, not individual records and accolades.
And as Watson acknowledged Friday, they haven't come close to winning a Super Bowl. The Texans blew a 24-0 second quarter lead to the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round last season.
Watson is not the reason they lost the game, but he sets the tone as the leader of the offense, so his development is crucial for the Texans to contend.
"A lot of eyes are on me," Watson said Friday on a Zoom conference. "I control what I can do out there on the field and everyone is following. So, as far and as good as I go as a quarterback, that's how far and how good the team is going to go. So I have to have that mentality each and every practice, each and every day."
Watson's confidence and comfortability in the offense has grown, especially as he's become closer with first-year play caller Tim Kelly.
Watson said he and Kelly spent last year -- Kelly's first as offensive coordinator while head coach Bill O'Brien continued to call plays -- getting on the same page schematically. Now, Watson already knows what Kelly's thinking in a given situation.
What's on the line for Watson is his desire to pull what he called "a big three," having already won a state championship in high school and a national title in college.
"I'm trying to, of course, be legendary," Watson said. "That's my words since college and for me to be that, I have to win a Super Bowl, and definitely win it with the Houston Texans. We never won one here before, having even come on the brim of winning one. We've got to get to that game before that, and then of course we can think about that.
"I'm trying to create history and continue that and make it a dynasty."
