Texans elevate rookie offensive lineman Juice Scruggs from injured list

(SportsRadio 610) - Rookie center Juice Scruggs is available to play after missing the first 10 games of the season with a hamstring injury.

The Texans elevated Scruggs from the injured reserve list ahead of Sunday's tilt against the Jacksonville Jaguars to decide the AFC South leader.

Scruggs had been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in the Texans' final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. His returns presents an interesting question about how the Texans might use him, whether at left guard or at center.

At practice this week, Scruggs was seen at guard, a move that could send Tytus Howard back to his natural position at right tackle. But Scruggs was drafted in the second round to play center, where backup Michael Dieter has filled in admirably since rookie Jarrett Patterson was injured Oct. 29 against the Carolina Panthers.

At right tackle, Howard's position, veteran George Fant has started every game and also played well. So pay attention to what the Texans do on the offensive line Sunday against Jacksonville.

Houston also elevated cornerback Desmond King II and wide receiver Steven Sims from the practice squad ahead of the Jaguars matchup.

King played the last two seasons in Houston but was part of the 53-man roster cuts. He played three games for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, including one against the Texans, before he was released. The Texans brought King back to the practice squad last week.

In other moves, third-year linebacker Garret Wallow was waived from the active roster.
