HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- Texans cornerback Gareon Conley announced on Instagram he is unable to play this season.

Interim head coach Romeo Crennel echoed this Friday morning when asked about Conley's status.

"Not able to play this year but I never give up hope," Conley posted to Instagram earlier this week, also announcing his support for a program to combat homelessness as part of the league's My Cause My Cleats initiative.

Conley underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery during the offseason, but it was not successful. He's undergone a second ankle surgery, according to multiple reports.

It's unclear whether Conley will return to the Texans next season. The team declined to pick up his fifth-year option, making him a free agent in 2021, but could still sign him to a new deal.

But considering they traded a third-round pick for Conley midway through the 2019 season, and never had a chance to see him play in 2020, the Texans could go in a different direction.
