John Metchie III takes the field at Texans training camp after battling leukemia

(SportsRadio 610) - John Metchie III has a journey unlike anyone else's on the Texans' team.

He was a second-round pick last year, but before he could play a single down for the Texans, before he could even report for training camp, he was diagnosed with leukemia. The diagnosis ended his season, since Metchie would have to undergo chemotherapy for treatment.

General manager Nick Caserio said ahead of the first training camp practice Wednesday that Metchie had been cleared to play. He participated in practice drills and has a chance to factor into the Texans' offense this season.

Houston's wide receiver room is interesting, made up of a few veterans but mostly unproven players. Robert Woods and Nico Collins will likely start as outside receivers, but Metchie could be useful in the slot and as someone who could play outside.

The Texans also drafted Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson and signed Noah Brown.
