Texans most active NFL team as legal tampering picks up
(SportsRadio 610) - The new league year in the NFL doesn't officially begin until Wednesday, March 15 but Monday marked the day teams can begin legally negotiating with free agents.
Any signing agreed upon between teams and players, or trades that are made will not be executed or finalized until paperwork is submitted and approved Wednesday.
The Texans busy offseason continued, as no team in the league agreed to terms with more players than the Texans did on Monday.
The most active team in the league to date, signed quarterback Case Keenum, fullback/tight end Andrew Beck, defensive end Chase Winovich, running back Mike Boone, defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway and safety Jimmie Ward.
All of them will officially be Texans once deals can be finalized on Wednesday.
Case Keenum: The 35-year old Keenum will re-join the Texans for a third time in his career on a two-year deal worth $6.25 million, including $4 million guaranteed and $750,000 due at signing.
Andrew Beck: The 26-year old former Denver Broncos tight end/fullback agreed to terms on a two-year pact with the Texans worth a reported $6.25 million.
Chase Winovich: The former Patriots and Browns DE will reportedly sign a one-year, $2.75M deal.
Mike Boone: The 27-year-old, five-year veteran agreed to terms with the Texans on a two-year deal, worth a reported $3.1 million.
Hassan Ridgeway: The 28-year-old, seven-year veteran who played for DeMeco Ryan's last season in San Francisco is signing a one-year deal with the Texans worth $4 million.
Jimmie Ward: The 31-year-old career 49er (nine years) is the latest to follow DeMeco Ryans to Houston. Terms of his contract were not disclosed.
The Texans have been busy in recent weeks as well, re-signing some players before they could hit the open market, including center Scott Quessenberry (one-year $2.1 million), defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth (one-year $1.2 million) and safety M.J. Stewart (Two-years $7.5 million).
Wide receiver Robert Woods agreed to terms with the Texans on a two-year $15.25 million deal last Friday. The deal includes $10 million in guaranteed money with a maximum earning potential of $17 million, if incentives are met.
