(SportsRadio 610) - This week’s game in Chicago is a must-win for the Houston Texans.
Some "Well Actually Guys" get irked by using this term this early in the season, but the Texans MUST win in Chicago. At least if they want to compete in the division this season.
Not only is the meeting with the Bears one of their best opportunities to win a ballgame on-paper. It’s a massive opportunity to take advantage of one of the best things going in Houston’s favor of the 2022 , an awful AFC South.
Look at the AFC South matchups for the next two weeks.
- Las Vegas is favored at 0-2 Tennessee.
- Kansas City is a 6.5 point favorite at 0-1-1 Indy.
- Jacksonville is a TD underdog in LA against the Chargers.
If the Texans beat the Bears and all other three AFC South teams lose, which is a strong possibility, then the Texans would be tied with Jacksonville atop the division at 1-1-1 above winless Tennessee and Indianapolis.
That brings us to week four where the Texans could lose to the Chargers, which they’d be expected to do, and still be in first place after the week.
- The Titans and Colts meet in Indianapolis.
- Jacksonville travels to Philly to face the Eagles.
- Texans are at home to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
The winner of the Titans and Colts game would be either tied with the Texans (Indy) or a game back (Tennessee), assuming the previously mentioned realistic scenarios play out. IF the Texans beat the Bears.
Jacksonville will be an underdog in Philly, probably a touchdown or more dog. If they lose in Los Angeles and in Philly, which they’re expected to do then they’d be tied with the Texans atop the division at 1-2-1. IF the Texans beat the Bears.
That would set-up a Week Five showdown between the Texans and Jaguars in Jacksonville with first place in the division on the line.
The Bears are one of the Texans worst opponents on the schedule and one of the few games people are picking them to win. If it’s the only game Lovie Smith wins in the first four weeks of the season then the Texans would be very much in the mix in the weak AFC South and likely at the top.
The path to first place four weeks into the season is laid out. All the Texans have to do is beat a bad Bears football team Sunday. It’s a game they, wait for it… MUST. WIN. #MustWin
