Texans promote assistant Cole Popovich to offensive line coach and run game coordinator
Just a day after hiring Nick Caley as offensive coordinator, the Texans are promoting assistant Cole Popovich as their offensive line coach.
Popovich has spent the past two seasons as the team's assistant offensive line coach. It had been incorrectly reported last week that Popovich was fired alongside former offensive line coach Chris Strausser. But it turns out Popovich will step up to replace him.
Prior to joining the Texans in 2023, Popovich was the offensive line coach at Troy University. He'd been the co-offensive line coach for the New England Patriots in 2020 (Texans general manager Nick Caserio's last season there). He was the assistant running backs coach for New England in 2019 and a coaching assistant there from 2016-2018.
To connect the dots here, Caley and Popovich worked together for years with the Patriots, with Caserio working as an executive.
