Texans waive veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin

(SportsRadio 610) - Shaq Griffin has been waived by the Texans after playing in 10 games this season, starting six of them, in place of then injured cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

Griffin, 28, who signed a one-year $3.5 million deal with the Texans in the offseason, had one interception, four pass deflections and he led the team with 10 tackles in the Texans' week three 37-17 victory over the Jaguars, also his former team.

The seven-year corner played just 16 snaps during Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars and it was the second consecutive game in which Griffin hadn't played a single snap on defense.

After starters Derek Stingley Jr., Steven Nelson and nickel corner Tavierre Thomas, the Texans only have Ka'dar Hollman and D'Angelo Ross on the active depth chart at cornerback, along with Desmond King II and Kris Boyd as cornerbacks on the practice squad.
