(SportsRadio 610) - After consecutive poor performances from Kyle Allen, the Texans are going back to Davis Mills as their starting quarterback Sunday when they visit the Dallas Cowboys.
Allen had replaced Mills as the starter in the last two games against the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns. But Allen was just as bad and often worse than Mills had been the previous 10 starts.
Mills had an NFL-leading 11 interceptions when he was benched for Allen two weeks ago, a mark that's since been passed by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan (13). Mills was also leading the league in poor throws, according to Football Reference.
But in two games, Allen threw four interceptions compared to two touchdowns and completed just 59 percent of his passes. He also fumbled on a QB sneak near the Texans' goal line Sunday, leading to a Browns recovery and touchdown.
"When don't give out lifetime jobs," Texans head coach Lovie Smith said Monday. "It's about performance each week. We didn't feel like the performance last week warranted another start (for Allen) ... We expect the two weeks of watching from the sideline to help and there are so many other things that we can do to help the quarterback position. It's a lot more than just him."
