(SportsRadio 610) - Texans rookie quarterback Davis Mills will start his fifth straight game Sunday when they host the Rams at NRG Stadium, head coach David Culley said Friday.
Mills is starting in place of veteran Tyrod Taylor, who is still not ready to play after sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.
"It's just time, with the hamstring," Culley said of Taylor. "It takes time and guys heal differently. So he's making great progress, but at this point we just don't feel like he's where he needs to be to play the way he needs to play."
Taylor had been activated from the injured reserve earlier this week. The coach hopes to get Taylor back eventually this season, though he voiced confidence in the rookie.
"He's prepared. He's taken most of the reps in practice all week, just like he has been." Culley said of Mills. "Tyrod took some reps but he's prepared like he's practiced any other time as a starter."
In five and a half games, Mills has five touchdown passes and seven interceptions. He is completing 64.9 percent of his passes at 6.1 yards per attempt.
Houston has been outscored 62-8 the past two weeks, and lost 40-0 in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills. That's losing 102-8 in the Texans' last three road games.
The Texans face another challenge against the Los Angeles Rams (6-1), a team tied for the second-most sacks in the league.
