(SportsRadio 610) - The Texans just made a significant addition to their defensive front.
Former Jets and Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins is signing a one-year deal worth $10.5 million with the Texans, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday afternoon.
Rankins spent the past two seasons with the Jets, where he recorded six sacks, nine tackles for loss and 14 quarterback hits in that time. He joins a familiar defensive scheme having played in New York under Robert Saleh, who was Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans' predecessor as the 49ers defensive coordinator.
Before joining the Jets in 2021, Rankins spent five seasons with the Saints. He joins former 49ers safety Jimmie Ward, defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway and former Browns and Patriots defensive end Chase Winovich as the Texans' defensive free agent signings.
