Texans CB Steven Nelson gets pay raise, despite social media smack talk

(SportsRadio 610) - Despite taking a few personal shots at Texans general manager Nick Caserio online this offseason, cornerback Steven Nelson appears to get his wish.

Nelson, entering his ninth NFL season and second with the Texans, was not satisfied with his contract and was not shy about expressing it.

There were social media posts suggesting Texans general manager Nick Caserio was untrustworthy, because he dare wear sweater vests in Texas, which to be fair is an interesting decision. Weeks later at the start of training camp, Caserio laughed it off and acknowledged dialogue about reworking Nelson's contract, which would have paid him $4.5 million this season.

Nelson, who played well for Houston last season arguably as the team's best corner, gets a $2 million raise, KPRC's Aaron Wilson first reported.

With this move, the Texans' secondary seems solidified. Nelson and Derek Stingley Jr. are the outside corners. Desmond King is the nickel corner, with Jalen Pitre and Jimmie Ward playing safety. Tavierre Thomas will also get looks in a hybrid defensive back role.
