The Texans are adding another quarterback by trading for Bengals backup Ryan Finley, according to a report by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Prior to the trade, the Bengals had plans of releasing Finley. Instead, they move up about 30 spots at the end of the draft with a late-round pick swap, according to Rapoport.
Finley was a fourth-round draft pick by the Bengals in 2019. He took over as the starter for Andy Dalton that year, but was later benched for Dalton after going 0-3, including two fumbles in Week 12 against the PIttsburgh Steelers.
Finley started one game in 2020 for the injured rookie Joe Burrow, passing for 89 yards and a touchdown, with 47 yards rushing, including a 23-yard rushing touchdown in the 27–17 win against the Steelers.
This week, the Texans have added two quarterbacks to the roster in signing free agent veteran Tyrod Taylor and trading for Finley.
The team remains in a standoff with franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has demanded a trade. That situation has been further complicated by a spate of sexual misconduct and assault allegations against Watson, which is being litigated in Harris County civil court.
