Texans training camp observations from Landry Locker

(SportsRadio 610) - Texans training camp is underway and we couldn't be happier to bring these daily observations from practice.

Let's get right into it.

1. The stretching seemed more intense than it has been in the last. Maybe I'm just too fired-up for football. Maybe…

2. Ok, I'm going to do it again. Pharaoh Brown looked awesome. I'm not quite ready to predict a breakout year again, but a few more practices like this and I might.

3. The first major injury of camp was Lovie Smith's voice. Maybe it's me being thirsty for football, but I felt like practice was more intense than day ones of past. However, one thing that's not debatable is that Lovie is coaching his ass off and doing A LOT of vocal coaching.

4. Quote Of The Day: "Because of Nick Caserio." - Brandin Cooks to me and OG on why he signed a contract extension.

5. Max Sharping has been really bad since his rookie year, there's no sugarcoating it, but he looks a lot more physically fit and was working with the first-team at left guard.

6. Speaking of body transformation… All of the second-year guys look for cut and in shape, literally every one. Nico Collins and Brevin Jordan are the most noticeable.

7. Hoyer vs Mallett. Savage vs Watson. The BOB micro-managing. 2021. This franchise outside of Deshaun Watson from 2018-2020 has a recent history of uncertainty/drama at the QB position early in camp, but this is the Davis Mills show, zero doubt and it feels that way at practice.

8. Lovie made this even more clear through his hoarse voice when he said Mills would be his vote for offensive team captain when it was time to vote.

9. Cooks had the play of practice, a leaping grab across the middle that had the crowd going nuts. He also beat a DB for what would've been a 70-yard YD, but Mills misfired.

10. The music seems more up to date during practice.

11. Caserio was in all hardo and all business mode during his media availability, I love it. He had some powerful words about John Metchie and a lot (A LOT) of love for Danny Amendola. He called Amendola, who played eight games with the Texans, a Texan for life.

12. What the team does in four and five wideout sets is going to be intriguing. Today there were times when Brown and Jordan were on the field at the same time in these situations.

13. I can tell more people are excited about the season because I had a few people try to get tickets from me today. That hasn't happened in a while. Side note: I ain't got any tickets.

14. Same time tomorrow. Football is here. Thank Goodness.

Landry Locker is co-host of In The Loop, weekdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on SportsRadio 610.
