(SportsRadio 610) -- For the second consecutive week, a positive COVID-19 test placed some uncertainty on whether the Texans play over the weekend.

The Cleveland Browns, who are scheduled to host the Texans on Sunday, shut down their facility Friday after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

Interim head coach Romeo Crennel said Friday morning the team is preparing as if the game will be played, but they are waiting on the Browns’ contact tracing process, after which the NFL will determine whether the game is played.

"In the meantime, we prepare like we're playing and really hope that we're playing because we've been practicing all week,” Crennel said. “I'm sure they want to play as well, but it's kind of out of our hands. We'll do what we normally do until we're told something different.

“If they have guys who are in close contact for a long period of time, then they will have to sit out the game and then they'll probably go on with the game."

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said there had been "no change to the status of the game," according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans were on the other side of this situation last week, except they had an extra day for contract tracing.

Outside linebacker Jacob Martin’s positive test was revealed late on a Wednesday, so the Texans shut down their facility last Thursday. But they were able to rule out Whitney Mercilus and inside linebacker Dylan Cole as close contacts to Martin, and returned to their facility last Friday.
