The Texans will not be acquiring wide receiver Deebo Samuel and apparently the trade talks were never realistic.
That's according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, who reported Saturday the San Francisco 49ers are trading Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick.
Rapoport mentioned there had been some talk of the Texans potentially trading for Samuel, "but that was never realistic." He is likely referring to the Jordan Schultz report from earlier in the week that characterized the Commanders and Texans as the teams with "significant interest" in Samuel (should also be noted that Rapoport and Schultz have quite the contentious relationship).
Samuel, who spent his first six seasons with the Niners, played through injuries in recent years and has yet to come close to replicating his All-Pro season in 2021, when he recorded 1,405 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns.
In 15 games last season, Samuel had 670 receiving yards and just four touchdowns.
