The Texans waived fourth-year running back Dameon Pierce ahead of Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Bills.
It brings an end to Pierce's time in Houston, which started off promising when he was a rookie in 2022. Pierce was arguably the Texans' most dynamic offensive weapon at the time with 939 rushing yards in just 13 games played.
But since then, Pierce has struggled to find similar form and last season was relegated almost exclusively to special teams duties.
In 2023, Pierce started just seven of 14 games with 416 rushing yards. That number went down to zero starts with just 293 yards on 40 carries last season.
So far this season, Pierce has 10 carries for 26 yards in four games played. He also has four kickoff returns for 92 yards.
In other roster moves Thursday, the Texans signed cornerback Ajani Carter (a Houston native) to the active roster from the practice squad. They also brought back cornerback Damon Arnette to the practice squad.
Safety Jalen Mills and linebacker Jackson Woodard were both elevated from the practice squad.
