Dusty Baker is back, folks.

The former Giants manager is rejoining the franchise as a special assistant to Farhan Zaidi who will also work to help Larry Baer, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The report was also confirmed by Danny Emerman of the Mercury News.

The move comes after a 26-year managerial career which featured three pennants, three Manager of the Year nods and a long-overdue World Series which he won in 2022 with the Houston Astros.

Baker, 74, managed the Giants from 1993 to 2002, when he coached the team in a World Series loss to the Anaheim Angels. San Francisco did not renew his contract, and Baker joined the Chicago Cubs for four seasons. He spent another six managing the Cincinnati Reds, two for the Washington Nationals, and the last four with Houston.

It's a move which, if only nominal in substance, brings back a well-loved person and familiar face to the organization.
