HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- For the second consecutive year Houston will enter the NCAA Tournament as a number one seed, and will take on Longwood on Friday night in Memphis.
The NCAA Tournament selection committee awarded the Cougars the tournament's overall second seed, behind defending national champion Connecticut after winning the Big 12 regular season title and finishing as the runner up in the Big 12 Tournament this weekend in Kansas City.
The Cougars will take on a Longwood team that won the Big South Tournament as the number five seed after finishing just 6-10 in conference play.
If Houston advances it would play the winner of the 8/9 game between Nebraska and Texas A&M on Sunday. The Cougars beat the Aggies, who advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament, at Toyota Center in December.
Nebraska is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years after finishing third in the Big 10 this season. The Huskers have never won an NCAA Tournament game.
The South Regional will be played at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, with the semifinals taking place on March 29.
