College Football: Landry Locker's Lone Star State Top 10, Week Seven

TCU holds off a dangerous Kansas team, a full-strength Texas team looks like a completely different beast, A&M scares Bama, Dana gets a much-needed win and a lot more heading into a massive weekend of college football.

Here is this week's Lone Star Top 10. Send all complaints to @LandryLocker on Twitter or Instagram.

No. 10 Texas State

UNT and UTEP are struggling so they fall out. Shout out to Texas State, who beat Appalachian State, which isn't easy to do. Just ask Texas A&M.

No. 9 SMU

I am giving SMU the benefit of the doubt after an awful stretch and assuming that after a bye week they'll be more of the team that we saw against TCU than the one we saw the next week.

They'll look to right the ship against Navy. See what I did there?

No. 8 Rice

The Owls continue to chase bowl eligibility with a matchup this week against FAU, who just jumped on UNT like a trampoline last week. It would be a really nice road win for the Owls.

No. 7 Houston

I don't know if Dana Holgorsen is off the hook, but he needed that comeback win over Memphis more than anything and you could see his relief on the sidelines as the clock hit zero.

I am pulling for him and hope this is the start of a strong finish. Much-needed off week for the Coogs.

No. 6 Baylor

Many may look at Baylor as one of the season's bigger disappointments, but they were overrated at the start of the season and a victim of their own unexpected success last year.

With that said, they shouldn't lose to this West Virginia team to start the week off.

No. 5 UTSA

Will they lose again? Should be favored in every game for the remainder of the season

No. 4 Texas Tech

Tech has come down to earth after upsetting Texas and I still like what they have going on, but it's becoming obvious that the upset over Texas might be as good as it gets and had a lot to do with Texas playing their backup QB.

No. 3 Texas A&M

Jimbo Fisher was a couple yards away from being able to claim he was Nick Saban's daddy. Yes, Bama was without Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, but nobody expected A&M to hang with Bama the way they did.

I've talked a lot about Rice making a bowl, but is A&M going to? They have six games remaining and need to win three of them.

No. 2 Texas

With Quinn Ewers healthy Texas could be undefeated or a one-loss team. The Oklahoma win had as much to do with the disaster OU has become this season.

But after this week's game against Iowa State we will learn a ton about Texas, who will then have a three-game stretch against OSU, Kansas State and TCU.

No. 1: TCU

TCU held off Kansas and now will face Oklahoma State in Fort Worth in the biggest game of the year (up to this point) in a very good Big 12 Conference and one of the marquee games of a massive college football weekend.

What a weekend of college ball ahead!
