Following the Saints’ 26-23 win against the Chicago Bears Sunday, running back Alvin Kamara was asked about by a reporter if he was playing his best football.
“I don’t know,” Kamara said. “I’ll leave that up to everybody else to decide. I’m just playing. I’m just out there having fun, trying to get wins.
“Thankfully we pulled one out today in overtime.”
Statistically, Kamara is not only having his best season but one of the best ever by a running back.
Kamara became just the third back in NFL history to have at least 50 catches in each of his first four seasons as he caught nine passes for 96 yards to go along with his 67 yards rushing in Sunday’s matchup.
The 5-foot-10, 215-pound back, who signed a massive five-year, $75 million contract extension ahead of the season, was already leading the NFL in yards from scrimmage and total yards heading into the game and is on pace to have over 1,000 yards receiving and nearly 1,000 yards rushing.
Kamara currently is averaging 61.6 rushing yards per game and 79.4 receiving yards per game, both career-highs and if he reaches his projected total of 2,256 total yards from scrimmage it would be the 15th most in NFL history.
His projected 126 catches and 1,271 reaching yards would also be the most by a running back in NFL history.
