Tom Brady returned for this season looking for another Super Bowl, and while the Buccaneers’ chances of winning the NFC are dwindling, it’s possible that the quarterback still makes it there.
The Buccaneers now sit at 3-5 on the season after another loss on Thursday night. Tampa Bay is in turmoil, as is Brady’s personal life.
With Brady and the Bucs in shambles, the quarterback may move to the broadcast booth sooner than expected. He signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox to be a lead NFL analyst after he retires.
Andrew Fillipponi and Danny Parkins of the Audacy Original Podcast “1st & Pod” floated out the possibility of Brady appearing in his 11th Super Bowl, this time as an analyst.
“Bold prediction here, I know you like those: I think Tom Brady will be in the booth calling the Super Bowl as an analyst,” Fillipponi said (1:40 in player above). “I think he starts with Fox before the season is over.”
Parkins was a bit taken aback by this, noting that Brady wouldn’t have experience, and throwing someone to a National broadcast like that may not be the best idea.
On top of that, the Buccaneers still have a decent chance of at least making the playoffs. While they’re down to +900 to win the NFC, the Bucs are -150 to win the “pathetic” NFC South.
“They’ll be eliminated with enough time for him to be a part of the coverage, but I don’t think they’re going to boot Greg Olsen,” Parkins said.
Olsen isn’t exactly a superstar, but he’s knowledgeable and has experience in his role. Brady does not, although Tony Romo picked up the analyst role pretty quickly.
While Brady may not be the lead analyst for the Super Bowl, the guys could agree on one thing: he’ll be involved somehow.
“I think he’s going to be a part of the broadcast,” Parkins said. “But I don’t think they boot Greg Olsen two games before the Super Bowl. That would be a very bold broadcasting decision. I would love it, but I don’t think they’ll do that.”
Super Bowl LVII is set to be played at State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, in Glendale, AZ on February 12th.
