Lions' first-round pick Jameson Williams and three more of the team's players from last season have been suspended by the NFL for gambling.

The NFL announced Friday that Williams, along with receiver Stanley Berryhill, has been suspended six games starting Week 1 this season for betting from an NFL facility on non-NFL games, among other violations of the league's gambling policy. Both players can participate in offseason and preseason activities.

The league also announced that receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore have been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games, among other gambling violations. The Lions have released both players.

Lions GM Brad Holmes said in a statement that an NFL investigation revealed that all four players "exhibited decision making that is not consistent with our organizational values and violates league rules."

"We have made the decision to part ways with Quintez and C.J. immediately. We are disappointed by the decision making demonstrated by Stanley and Jameson and will work with both players to ensure they understand the severity of these violations and have clarity on the league rules moving forward," said Holmes.

Williams, drafted 12th overall last year by the Lions after they traded up 20 spots to take him, missed most of his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL. Now he'll miss at least the first six games of his second season for a team that has aspirations of winning the NFC North.

Once his suspension starts, he won't be allowed inside the team facility until Week 4.
