Irsay took to Twitter early Tuesday morning to reflect on the entertaining football we were treated to this weekend and stated that to win in the NFL, you need a great quarterback who can score 30 points or more and a serviceable defense who can hold opponents to 30. Some view Irsay's comment as a direct shot at his current signal-caller Carson Wentz.

“You can see, clear as day, in the Final 8 NFL Team Playoffs. … you need a QB and Offense who can score 30 or more in Regulation,” Irsay tweeted. “And a Defense that can hold an opponent under 30.”

The defense finished 10th in the NFL in points allowed, giving up 21.5 points per game while the offense started off hot. Fueled by stud running back Jonathan Taylor, the Colts were looking like shoe-ins for the postseason. From Week 4 against the Dolphins through their Week 13 win over Houston, the Colts led the NFL in scoring at 31.5 points per game, which would've led the league in a full season. However, after their road trip victory over the Texans, the passing offense went straight into the toilet and never recovered.

In the last four games of the season, Wentz completed just 58 percent of his passes and averaged 6.4 yards per attempt. Despite tough wins against the Patriots and the Cardinals, the passing game was anemeic.

Irsay met with head coach Frank Reich and GM Chris Ballard immediately after their crushing defeat to the Jaguars. telling Fox59/CBS4’s Mike Chappell later that he told them it was clear changes needed to be made.

Irsay's recent string of tweets seem to be an owner whose mind is turning and looking towards the future. After explaining that the reason for his late night tweets, saying he's currently on the west coast, Irsay sent out one last subliminal tweet.

“While others fret, worry and toss in bed. … we prepare,in the dark night, and ready,” Irsay wrote. “Making plans to conquer…”
