Former Cowboys, Texas A&M linebacker Dat Nguyen sits with Lopez, McClain to discuss upcoming documentary

Former Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen has an upcoming documentary about his life titled "All American | The Dat Nguyen Story."

Nguyen, now 47, said he was approached in 2019 about doing the full length documentary to share his story as the son of Vietnamese refugees.

"The purpose of this is the root of generation, the second and third generations who don't really know much about the (Vietnam) War and I think it helps them to understand and appreciate what we went through, as the roots and the families.

"For me, it's the American dream. You couldn't ask for it better. The game of football, you come to America, get to learn how to play America's sport and fortunate to play for America's team. I'm just fortunate to tell a story and I think my story is just unique in a lot of ways."

At the 8:47 mark, Nguyen tells a story about knowing former Texans head coach Lovie Smith for years, before realizing Smith's father-in-law fought for his family and took care of them at a refugee camp in Arkansas after they escaped Saigon.

Nguyen went on to become an All-American linebacker at Texas A&M in 1998 and All-Pro in 2003 for the Cowboys, where he played from 1999-2005.

The documentary will be released Fourth of July on SEC Network, Amazon Prime and Roku.
