DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys are called 'America's Team' for a reason, as they have traditionally gotten a lot of fan support when they hit the road. However, the support is always more evident in some places more than others, especially in the Washington D.C. area.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked Friday on 105.3 The Fan about the support the team receives in the Nation's Capital, and he agreed that they have a large fan base in the DMV area.
"We have always sold more Cowboys memorabilia and had our most positive fan support coming from Washington. Outside of the Texas area, Washington is where we have the most support," Jones said on the K&C Masterpiece.
Washington has had an issue filling up FedEx Field this season, ranking dead last in home attendance with an average of 51,523 fans per game. The seating capacity for the stadium is 82,000.
But, that doesn't appear to be a problem with the Cowboys coming to town, as Washington says they only have standing-room only tickets available for Sunday's NFC East showdown.

That could be an indication of how large the Cowboys fan base is in D.C., but it could also be attributed to the four-game winning streak Washington has put together.
"There's a massive interest in pro football in Washington. There's certainly a great interest in the NFL. What you're seeing has been a little diminished, for whatever reasons, interest in the games (in Washington). That's perking up, though. And, with the wins they've had here lately, you'll see it out there. It wouldn't surprise me to see a full stadium," Jones said.
In addition to Washington's issues with fan attendance, they are still in the process of determining what its permanent name will be. The organization is expected to announce what they'll be called prior to the 2022 season, but they could elect to keep the Washington Football Team name. And, it sounds like Jerry Jones and the NFL would be on board.
"I think they will do a satisfactory job, to me, as far as what they ultimately do. But this is a good name."
