Tom Brady may have just turned 44, but he feels like he’s 30.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback said on Thursday that this is the best he’s felt heading into the preseason in years, so much so that he is no longer wearing a knee sleeve during practice.

“It’s the first time in 14 years where I haven’t had to wear a knee sleeve,” he told reporters. “Every picture I’ve had for 14 years I’ve been in a knee sleeve. In games, I’ll still wear a knee brace just because I want to protect kind of a vulnerable spot for a quarterback, you know, your front left knee. But it’s just nice to practice and kind of feel I can put a pair of shorts on and run out to practice.”

Fourteen years ago would bring Brady back to the 2007 season, which he won the MVP and led the New England Patriots to a 16-0 regular season record.

The following season Brady tore his ACL in the first game and has worn a knee sleeve ever since.

The fact that Brady feels as good as he did when he was 30 prior to the ACL injury would ideally bode well for him and could be bad news for the rest of the league.

“Like I said, physically I’m feeling great, mentally in a good place,” Brady said. “I’m just realy excited to see what our team can become.
