Online safety warning for parents
Authorities are urging parents to closely monitor their children’s online activity following reports of a dangerous extremist group targeting teenagers. According to officials, the group has been using popular gaming platforms like Roblox and Minecraft to contact young users, often posing as friends or romantic interests to build trust. Investigators say the interactions can escalate into manipulation, threats, and blackmail. The Georgia Attorney General’s Office, the FBI, and Atlanta police are advising families to watch for sudden changes in behavior, secretive online habits, or unfamiliar contacts, and to have open conversations with children about online safety.

Automatic draft registration change
A significant change is coming to how young men are registered for the Selective Service. The U.S. government plans to automatically register eligible men between the ages of 18 and 26, eliminating the need for individuals to sign up themselves. While there has not been a military draft in the United States since 1973, registration remains a legal requirement. Officials say the move is designed to improve compliance. Failure to register under current law can carry penalties, including fines of up to $250,000 and potential prison time.

Dogwood Festival adds security, ticket requirement
Atlanta’s annual Dogwood Festival kicks off this weekend at Piedmont Park with increased security measures and a new entry policy. Atlanta police say officers will be deployed on foot, horseback, and motorcycles, and additional staff will support emergency call centers throughout the event. Organizers say the enhanced presence is aimed at ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees. In a change for the festival’s 90th year, tickets are now required for entry. Admission is $10 for adults, and officials recommend purchasing tickets online in advance to avoid lines.
