Shrek the Musical is set to hit the stage at the Fox Theatre, and audiences are buzzing with delight for the loveable adventures of Shrek, Donkey and even the karate fighting Princess Fiona. Adding to the excitement is the casting of actress, Cecily Dion Davis in the role of Princess Fiona - an Atlanta Native who graduated from Rockdale County's Heritage High School Academy of Performing Arts. In an exclusive interview with Jenn Hobby, Davis shared her journey from Atlanta to Howard University to landing the iconic role and back again.
Davis, a Conyers native and recent graduate of Howard University recalls, "I've spent my whole adolescent years in Conyers.". Davis shared she knew she was destined for the stage at an early age, "When I was six, it was The Wizard of Oz, and I wanted to be a munchkin," she shared. Though her first try at being on stage fell flat, it sparked the fire that fueled her love for performing.
The audition process for Shrek the Musical was a rollercoaster of emotions for the production team as they felt they hadn't quite found their Princess. "It was a very interesting process," she said. Joining the auditions months after they had begun, Davis initially jumped on the opportunity, ultimately hoping to become the Dragon, but her close friend who was part of the director's team shared they want her to read for Princess Fiona. Davis' star shined bright that day impressing the casting directors with her outstanding talent.
