Ava Max was signed to Atlantic Records in 2016 and almost instantly became a smash hit with her song “Sweet but Psycho” in 2018. Since then the pop singer hasn’t slowed down with her new hits of her “Heaven & Hell” album that was released in 2020 - the number one single off the album was “My Head & My Heart”.
Music fans around the world speculate it was Max and her team who have cracked the code on what it takes to make a smash hit in today’s age by mixing in samples of smash hits from the 80s and 90s and putting a fresh perspective on it. As a result several other artists have followed in suit including Dua Lipa with “Love Again”, Bebe Rexha in “I’m Good” featuring David Guetta and more; However as history always finds a way of repeating itself, it has done so again with these incredible hits.

The concept or musical formula of taking what’s old and making it new again is in fact an old strategy that is almost always a win for the home team. Rewinding a little more than 20 years ago we can take a look at Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s hit “Next Episode” which actually features “The Edge” by David McCallum which originally came out in 1967. This is just the tip of the iceberg as there are many artists since the beginning of time that have used this formula to success, some include Black Eyed Peas, Diddy, No Doubt, Jennifer Lopez and the list can go on.
